Stiletto Studio

Rebecca Lake from Stiletto Cakes is the next fabulous wedding show exhibitor to feature on our blog leading up to the Autumn show.

I have had the pleasure of indulging in Becs’ cakes at weddings, and they truly are divine – heaven on a plate. The passion fruit and lemon curd would have to be at the top of my all time favourite sweet treats!

Look for Becs and her team at the Autumn show, and a little hint for where they will be, there will be candy for both taste buds and eyes!

Here Becs shares her Wellington and Wedding secrets….

The place I love to eat in Wellington is…Thyme in Churton Park, they do our favourite Eggs Benedict!

When I need a good coffee, I head to….. Muffin Break – I don’t drink coffee (I wish I did!) but they do the best white hot chocolate

The song/book/movie I am currently in love with is….I’m going to go TV show – I’m currently working my way through Friends and Revenge while caking, love them!

The best “loved up” anecdote from a wedding I have been involved in is…. We had this on our wedding invites: “We’re all a little weird. And life is a little weird. And when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall into mutually satisfying weirdness—and call it love—true love”

The trend I am loving in weddings at the moment is… Simple and classic white ganache finish on cakes! So classy, and seriously delicious. And dessert buffets – who doesn’t want an entire buffet of happiness on their big day…?

The best wedding day tip I have is…. Chill out! Once you get to the day, everything that can be done or changed is done, now it’s time to just relax. As long as you’re there, your fiancé’s there, and someone to make it all legal – everything else is just a bonus!

The first exhibitor to feature in the blog posts leading up to the Autumn Show, is the super talented photographer, Mel Waite. Mel is an absolute delight to work with and this shows in her images, she loves what she does and the couples love having her there. We had one of Mel’s images on the cover of MR&MRS issue 3 and it would have to be one of the most memorable. I know Mel will be looking forward to meeting you all at the show in May!

Below she gives some insight into what makes Wellington and the wider region such a fabulous spot to be wed…

The place I love to eat in Wellington, for a pre or post photo shoot nosh up, is…
La Boca Loca in Miramar, it’s all the way on the other side of town from me but it worth the drive, the food is always amazing and they have such a relaxed atmosphere you can’t help but love it.

When I need a good coffee, I head to…..
I usually head home! we invested in a Rocket espresso machine for home and also for when clients come over and always have a fresh supply of Supreme beans on hand, otherwise if I’m in town I head to Customs Brew Bar on Ghuznee st

The song/book/movie I am currently in love with is….
Thinking out load by Ed Sheeran, the song is beautiful, but what I am most in love with is the music video, it is so beautifully shot and has such an amazing cinematic quality to it, also as music video go it’s wonderfully simplistic in it’s style.

The best “loved up” anecdotes from recent weddings I have been involved in are….
I recently shot a wedding for a couple who had been trying to get married for 12 years, every time they set a date and started to plan their wedding they got pregnant, this happened 4 times, but after 12 years and 4 kids they finally said I do in an amazing wedding full of kids, family and friends.

Also at a recent wedding, the Groom arranged a gift for his bride to open while she was getting ready, it was a drunken selfie of the two of them then night they first met, all framed up in a beautiful frame with a lovely letter, I never known such a bad photo to get so many happy tears!

The trend I am loving in weddings at the moment is…
The use of the wonderful summer colors right now, beautiful sky blues, golden hay browns and soft greens they reflect what is going on in nature so well.

The best wedding day tip I have is….
Do what makes you both happy, this is your day to celebrate your love however you want to, be it in front of 500 friends and family or a intimate elopement with just the two of you, your celebrant, witnesses and of course your photographer. Work out whatsimportant to you and prioritise those things. Remember you only do this once.

Wedding hair has never been more gorgeous, important, imaginative or beautiful than it is now. Gone are the days of the one-size fits all chignon and veil, and instead there are options to suit each bride’s individual style, face shape, mood and vibe. Whether you are a boho laid-back style bride who favours loose waves or plaits with a flower crown, or a more refined and polished princess-bride who wants the lot, jewels and tiaras, the works… Well it’s fair to say there’s something for everyone in our melange we have complied for you today. And from where we are standing it looks as though the loose romantic bun is more popular than ever, as are those divine flower crowns and floral adornments, and last but certainly not least – sparkly headpieces, hair brooches, feathers and long loose waves. Swoon! Which is your favourite?

Go on Rapunzel, let your hair down and scroll through the gorgeous images below. We bet you will wish you had beautiful red hair by the time you get to the end. To die for!

Things don’t get much more beautiful than a well-accessorised, gorgeously put-together bridal party. Matching mini-mes, complimentary dresses and some serious style take your wedding photos from pretty to pretty mindblowing! Don’t underestimate the wow-factor some cute little people can have on your overall look and styling, not to mention the warm fuzzies and ‘oh so cute’ factor that seeing these small but stunning bridal party members will evoke in all your guests. You can’t beat that stuff! After all, weddings are a celebration of life, love, togetherness and family… and having children present both as guests and within the bridal party, in our humble opinion, takes the significance of such an event up a few notches. Have a look at our favourites and see what you think…
